Kindred Spirit

Most of my novels are supernatural thrillers. Some have elements of dark fantasy and urban fantasy. Kindred Spirit is a bit of an exception, a paranormal thriller with a murder mystery and a ghost.

Kindred Spirit is unique among my novels in another way as well. Most of my research for this one came via interviews with experts in their respective fields.

Back Cover Text:

AWARD-WINNING MASTER OF FRIGHT JOHN PASSARELLA INTRODUCES A HAUNTING NEW CHARACTER WHOSE PSYCHIC BOND WITH HER MURDERED TWIN YIELDS TWO TIMES THE CHILLS.

Popular television reporter Hallie Moore seems to have it all. She's young, single, attractive, and her signature "best of" segments—Hallie's Comets—seem primed to send her career sky-high. Yet Hallie is haunted by the unsolved rape and murder of her identical twin, Heather. On the first anniversary of the brutal crime, Hallie visits her sister's memorial and—suddenly, inexplicably—experiences her twin's memories of the murder.

Convinced she's been touched by Heather's spirit, Hallie recalls the near telepathic bond the two shared during childhood. Is it possible that bond persists—even from beyond the grave? Compelled to solve her twin's murder, Hallie finds herself drawn to Heather's husband and six-year-old son and, unknowingly, puts herself into the killer's lethal orbit. For in his twisted mind, he believes he's been given a chance to commit the perfect murder…again.

Praise for Kindred Spirit (extended reviews)

Kindred Spirit is an excellent offering by John Passarella... a believability that resonates well with the reader... the ending is cataclysmic but most satisfactory. Well written, fast paced and quite enjoyable, I highly recommend Kindred Spirit.”
—Horror World, HorrorWorld.org (Full review in August Reviews)

“Stoker Award–winning horror novelist Passarella (Wither) brings a paranormal twist to this thriller about a television reporter probing the murder of her twin. A meticulous researcher, Passarella deftly interweaves Hallie's crisis of identity with her investigation... enough tension and fresh twists to make this a strong entry in the evolving field of cross-genre suspense.”
Publishers Weekly (May 1, 2006)

“[KINDRED SPIRIT is] wonderfully eerie.... This story was fantastic. It kept me hooked from the very beginning. Although the idea of twins being psychically linked is not original, the way in which this particular book was written made for a refreshing and compelling tale. Superb!”

“[KINDRED SPIRIT] was interesting and the characters very well developed and sympathetic... [A] great job pulling us into a reporter's life. You had me choked up at the end... all in all, a phenomenal read.”
Nate Kenyon, author of Bloodstone

“John Passarella is one of those writers who seems so mild mannered—until you get into one of his books and you realize he has teeth and claws. Kindred Spirit is a perfect example of that. Once you start reading you never expect it to go where it goes, or bite as hard as it does. A superb read.”
Jonathan Maberry, author of Ghost Road Blues

“Not since Thomas Tryon's THE OTHER has a story of twins so riveted and intrigued me. John Passarella has definitely got the mojo. This is an author who never disappoints--he terrifies! I'd ask for more but I really need to get some sleep now! ”
Nancy Holder, Author of Daughter of the Flames

“Renowned for his frightening horror tales (see the bewitching Wither trilogy), John Passarella provides his scariest book yet with the exhilarating paranormal amateur sleuth tale KINDRED SPIRIT because readers will believe in the connection between the twins even from beyond. The action-packed story line moves rather quickly forward as Hallie investigates the now cold case homicide of her sibling who seems to send her warning messages to be careful... the fascinating sisterly link... makes this superior mystical thriller worth reading.”
—Harriet Klausner (#1 Amazon.com Reviewer)

“[T]his story will send chills up and down your spine. It is so creepy that I had to stop twice and take a breather. When the phone rang near me I actually screeched. Yes, I SCREECHED! Author John Passarella is well known for his skills in creating horror stories, but his poison pen is even more lethal in the paranormal thriller realm. I feel sorry for anyone who misses out on this outstanding novel. I cannot recommend it highly enough.” [5 STARS]
Huntress Book Reviews (Reviewed by Detra Fitch)

“Passarella proves again that his is a strong voice in horror....[he has] a knack for creating scenes that resonate with readers. Many creepy moments are likely to stick with you for hours after you've finished reading.
“One of Passarella's greatest strengths in this book is his characterization.... [and] attention to detail... Passarella has taken obvious pains to provide accurate portrayals of every facet of his characters' lives... as if he's lived the life of a detective, a news personality, an [exhibit]-display builder, an auto-shop detailer, and a ghost hunter, using his matter-of-fact style to make the reader trust whatever he says without question.
“Kindred Spirit has a great deal to offer readers. [A] compelling story, with just enough creepy moments to keep any horror reader happy and at the same time intelligently examines many relationships not just between family members, but between the living and their departed loved ones. Overall, an excellent read.”
